PSG angry with Neymar after his trip to Monaco to watch F1
The Brazilian is in the middle of another storm at PSG: after he did not travel to play Strasbourg, the player was spotted at the Monaco Grand Prix.
Just one day after being crowned champion of ‘the saddest’ Ligue 1, Neymar Jr popped up at the Monaco Grand Prix. The forward was seen parading around the Red Bull pit, chatting to Max Verstappen and was pictured with Tom Holland while taking advantage of his day off with Verratti and Donnarumma.
It all sounds lovely, but the image of ‘Ney’ in the paddock at the Monaco race has enraged both supporters and PSG themselves. The forward did not take part in PSG’s game against Strasbourg which gave the club another league title, whereas 6 other injured players did indeed travel with the rest of the squad. While his teammates travelled east, Neymar was heading south and watched on as his team partied in the dressing room with the trophy.
PSG see Neymar decision as a ‘provocation’
PSG head coach Galtier had said before the game that various players had made the effort to be there for the final game of the season and the culmination of a year-long process that ended in glory. Regarding Neymar’s ligament injury, which he suffered back in March, Galtier said it meant he had trouble making the trip and that is why he was not present. Hours later, Neymar posted an Instagram story congratulating his team... from Monaco.
According to information from L’Équipe, the lack of the number 10 in Strasbourg has been taken by the club to be a ‘provocation’ from Neymar. His entourage, however, have tried to cool the tensions and have said that due to the injury, the player was not obliged to travel with the rest of the squad for the game. The divorce papers continue to pile up and the separation this summer is only a matter of time.
Neymar’s divorce from PSG looks likely
The situation is vastly different to last year, when Neymar stood strong regarding his place at the club: he wanted to stay. The player took up the option of a contract renewal until 2027, but this year has seen the table not only turned but flipped upside down, drinks everywhere. The ex-Barça player is not closing the door on a move away from PSG and the club are trying to find a way to save on his extraordinary €3.6 million-a-month salary. The most realistic option that Qatar are weighing up for the player is a loan move.
Will Neymar go to the Premier League?
As for where the player will end up, it seems that all roads are pointing in one direction: the Premier League. Clubs such as Chelsea and Manchester United have shown an interest in the player and according to L’Équipe, Pep Guardiola even called to check on the fitness of the player after his ankle injury. Neymar’s future is one to watch...
