PSG don’t want Ligue 1 star on their new shirt
Paris Saint-Germain want to remove the star which represents 10 Ligue 1 titles on their new shirt for next season which has already been designed.
Since QSI took over in 2011, Paris Saint-Germain have dominated Ligue 1, almost unrivalled. Only on three occasions have they let the title slip from their grasp (Montpellier won it in 2012, Monaco in 2017 and Lille last season), but apart from that, the trophy has ended up in Paris. Mauricio Pochettino’s team top the table on 71 points - 12 clear of their nearest rivals, Olympique Marseille and are heading towards their 10th Ligue 1 title. That would see them equal the record held by Saint-Étienne and allow them to wear the red, white and blue star above their badge - the sole preserve of 10-time winners.
Champions League wait
However, PSG will not be putting the star on their shirt if they are crowned champions - which looks likely. According to reports published by Le Parisien, PSG are currently immersed in designing their shirt for next season and are not thinking of adding the star. The club consider that they should be reserved for when they win their first Champions League - a moment which they have been waiting anxiously for since Qatar’s arrival in the French capital.
In the meantime, PSG are designing a limited edition shirt which will go on general sale as soon as league title number 10 arrives. Al Khelaïfi has managed to achieve the objective of turning the current Ligue 1 leaders into the best team in French football. Now they need to be crowned the best in Europe - something that has evaded them during the past 11 years.
