PSG to play last ‘trump card’ to avoid Messi moving to Inter Miami
The PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is confident that the Argentine star will renew his contract with the Parisian club.
Lionel Messi’s short term future at domestic level remains a mystery. The Rosario born striker is still shining in Doha with the Argentine national team in their quest to add a third star to the sky blue and white shirt.
In terms of Messi’s club situation, his current contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires on 30 June (2023) and as of yet the striker has still not renewed with the Ligue 1 side fuelling rumours that he destined for a move to MLS side Inter Miami next year.
Messi has alluded in the past that he would like to wind down his career in the US and has been linked with David Beckham’s outfit and there is even talk that negotiations have already taken place between both sides.
Faced with this situation, Paris Saint Germain are now forced to look for options to try to convince the Argentine to remain in the French capital and speaking to ESPN, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi remained confident that he hopes to convince the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner to remain in Paris.
“Leo is very happy, and you can see that with the Argentina team. If a player is not happy you will see that his performance is not good with his team. He had a fantastic performance this season with PSG, scoring many goals and assists for his country and club. We have agreed together that after the World Cup, we sit down and talk. Both parties, our side of the club and him are very happy, so we’ll talk later”, affirmed the PSG president.
MLS bound?
The Times recently claimed that the MLS team and Lionel Messi were close to reaching an agreement for the signing of the Argentine player and that any move would see Messi set to become the highest paid soccer player in the history of the MLS with the exact figures not being released. PSG may now be forced to dig deep to ensure that Messi remains in the Paris navy rather than the pink of Inter Miami.
