PSV Eindhoven - Borussia Dortmund: As it happened
PSV Eindhoven return to the knockout stages of the Champions League with a hard-fought draw against Borussia Dortmund.
The hosts started well but were wasteful in the final third, Malik Tillman missing three presentable chances early on. Dortmund struggled to get a foothold in the opening stages when Donyell Malen fired home from a tight angle against his former club.
PSV continues to push in the second half but needed a bit of fortune to draw level. Dortmund defender Matts Hummels flew into a challenge in the box and gave away a foul on Tillman.
Luuk de Jong stepped up to take the penalty kick for the hosts and made no mistake from close range.
As the game ticked on both sides seemed fairly content to take the draw. The tie is perfectly poised ahead of the second leg in Dortmund.
PSV and Dortmund level at 'halftime'
Halfway through this Champions League Round-of-16 tie the game is perfectly balanced. The remainder of the first leg games from this round will be played on Wednesday, with the return fixtures beginning in the first week of March.
PSV and Dortmund will resume hostilities on March 13.
What happens now? PSV Eindhoven and Borussia Dortmund have played out a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their Champions League knockout clash.

Delight for De Jong after second half leveller
Veteran forward Luuk de Jong has never looked like the most natural presence in the latter stages of the Champions League but the Dutchman is in incredible form this year. The 33-year-old has scored 19 goals in 22 Eredivisie games and struck his seventh Champions League goal of the season tonight (qualifying matches included).

Dortmund run out of time and the referee brings this first leg to a close.
Honours even in Eindhoven, one goal apiece for PSV and Dortmund.
Final attack for Dortmund. The ball is swung over to Brandt on the left, can he fashion something late on?
The hosts keep fighting to the death. Ricardo Pepi tries to hold the ball up on the left flank but he loses it.
PSV win it back with Dest and he swings in a low cross. Dortmund boot the ball clear, but PSV have a throw-in.
Emre Can does brilliantly to bring the ball through midfield. He works the ball through to Ian Maatsen but the Chelsea loanee slips and loses the ball.
PSV come forward with Dest on the right. He swings the ball into the box but it's easily repelled.
It falls to Joey Veerman on the edge of the box but he punts the ball into the stands behind Benitez's goal.
Sergino Dest takes a few too many touches in the middle of the field and looks close to losing the ball for his team. Fortunately for PSV, a foul is called on Julian Brandt.
There will be a minimum of six minutes of added time at the end of the second half.
Plenty of chance for either side to grab a winner!

Oliver Boscagli goes down for PSV after clearing the ball up-field. The big defender appears to be in some discomfort and will need to be replaced.
Throw-in on the right for PSV. They look to work the ball forward to De Jong but the pass is cut out.
Dortmund come forward on the counter attack but are quickly dispossessed.

The hosts come forward again with some good interplay on the edge of the box. Bakayoko tries to flick the ball through to the on-rushing Ricardo Pepi but he can't quite reach the return pass.
PSV look like the team more eager to force the issue in the final minutes.
Mauro JR shows good pace in his first touches and tries to create space for a cross from the left. He only succeeds in firing the ball out of play for a goal kick.
Another switch for PSV too: Ismael Saibari comes off, Mauro Junior comes on.

Big chance for Sergino Dest!
The USMNT star does brilliantly to beat his man and drive into the Dortmund box. He has a tight angle from the left and fire towards goal but Walter Benitez stops well.
Good work from Schlotterbeck to win the ball on the halfway line and get his team moving forward. Malen makes it to the edge of the PSV box but is dispossessed.
More Borussia Dortmund changes look to be close. There's two visiting players being readied on the touchline.
Johan Bakayoko makes good progress down the right and clips in a hanging cross, but it's well-claimed by Alexander Meyer in the Dortmund goal.
PSV back on the ball now, pushed forward by a re-energised home support. The club have not won a Champions League knockout game since 2007 and have a real chance to force a winner in the final stages.
Foul called on Jordan Teze on the halfway line. Dortmund have the chance to swing the ball into the box but Schlotterbeck plays short to Brandt.
Johan Bakayoko skips past Maatsen and makes space for a shot. His left-footed effort is tame and easily claimed by Meyer.
He's the PSV change: Ricardo Pepi comes on for Chucky Lozano.
A busy night for the Mexican, who has looked like PSV's most dangerous attacking outlet.
PSV some forward on the left, enjoying a good spell of the ball. Dest gets into a crossing position and flashes a cross into the box, narrowly missing the lurking Luuk de Jong.

PSV find Johan Bakayoko with a big diagonal pass. The forward is ruled offside, to the frustration of the home crowd.
Another Dortmund change, Marius Wolf comes on to replace Jadon Sancho. The Englishman has struggled to get in the game and his replacement is a more solid defensive option.
Dortmund have a good counter-attacking opportunity but a through-ball from Jadon Sancho is well overhit and runs out for a PSV throw-in. The hosts build the ball from the back again.
More frustration for Lozano as he runs the ball out of play on the left. The Mexican has looked like PSV's more lively attacking talent but he can be wasteful on the ball.
Good pressure from PSV who work the ball around the Dortmund box. The hosts are looking dangerous until Chucky Lozano cuts inside and balloons a shot over the bar from 30 yards.

Neat footwork from Fullkrug to bring his team up the field. Dortmund fashion a good chance and fire the ball across the face of goal but no one is there to convert.
First change for Dortmund as Marco Reus is replaced by Julian Brandt.
Good defensive work from Lozano to get his team back on the offensive. Ismael Saibari makes room for himself on the edge of the Dortmund box but his effort is well over the crossbar.
Corner kick to Dortmund, swung in by Sancho. Donyell Malen is battling for it at the back post but Oliver Boscagli does well to nod the bouncing ball clear.

Top save from Walter Benitez to stop Donyell Malen putting his side back ahead. The PSV stopper stayed strong from close range and keeps his team level.
Matts Hummels is very unhappy with the decision to award a penalty, and in one sense you can see why. The experienced German did indeed win the ball with his tackle.
But he also clattered through Malik Tillman in the process, a clumsy effort from such a composed defender. It was probably a 50/50 decision, Dortmund were just unfortunate on this occasion,
The home crowd are really making themselves heard! PSV fans are on their feet after the leveller from Luuk de Jong, the momentum is with the hosts now.

The experienced Dutchman make no mistake and tucks the ball home from 12 yards.
Matts Hummels is furious. Philips Estadion is bouncing. PSV are level!

Marco Reus takes the corner and swings it in on the six-yard box. The ball falls to Maatsen on the edge of the penalty box but he's crowded out.
PSV regain possession.
Brave play from Dortmund to work the ball out from the back and Sabitzer fires it across to Sancho on the left flank. The Englishman links up with Maatsen and Dortmund win a corner kick.
Lozano works himself some pace on the left side of the box and tries to curl a cross in towards De Jong. His delivery is rushed and goes out for a goal kick.
Malen wins his side a free kick on the right flank. A chance for Dortmund to slow the pace of the game and regroup.
Strong run from Veerman to bring the ball through the midfield. He's dispossessed by Sabitzer and the home crowd groans.
Dortmund clear sharply and are back on the attack. They look to have a chance to break but PSV get back well to clear the danger.
The ball falls to Joey Veerman on the edge of the Dortmund box and he lets fly. He effort takes a deflection and is out for a corner kick.
Sensational cross from Bakayoko on the right, bending the ball in towards De Jong in the middle. The Dutchman nearly reaches the cross but is a little too slow
PSV are straight on the offensive. Ismael Saibari looks to be starting higher in the second half, much closer to Luuk de Jong than to the rest of the midfield.

Borussia Dortmund lead at the break
It was a successful first half for Peter Bosz' side. The visitors managed to soak up PSV's pressure and took their chance when it arrived. Dortmund rode their luck at points in the first half, and will be grateful for some profligate finishing from Malik Tillman, but will be happy with the opening 45 minutes.

Borussia Dortmund are one goal ahead against PSV Eindhoven at Philips Stadion. Elsewhere in the Champions League it's still goalless between Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid.

Donyell Malen spent his youth career with PSV Joven and starred for the senior side for three years, hitting 40 Eredivise goals in 81 games. In 2021 he was signed by Dortmund for a reported €30 million.
Today, he comes back to haunt his former club.

Dortmund look to break through Malen but he's stopped on the halfway line.
PSV win another free kick with Lozano on the left. The Mexican's footwork is really something and he's drawing a lot of fouls from Dortmund.
He is getting a bit annoyed, however, with this physical treatment.

Yellow card for the Dortmund defender, although it's not immediately clear what for.
Possibly for a foul committed in a previous phase of play.

PSV are on the ball to finish the half. They have enjoyed plenty of possession and created some good chances. Their finishing has let them down.
The ball is whipped in from Veerman. He finds the head of Luuk de Jong but the Dutchman heads well over.

Huge cheers around Philips Stadion as the young fullback is showed a booking for a clumsy foul on Bakayoko. Another chance for PSV to deliver.
Joey Veerman curls in the delivery but Dortmund clear well. Maatsen sweeps the ball down the line and PSV regain possession.
PSV are building again and Lozano does well again. The Mexican skips inside of Ryerson and is pulled down. Free kick to PSV.
Lozano wants a booking for Ryerson, the free kick looked a little soft.
PSV come back on the attack with a long ball towards Bakayoko. He slips the ball through to Saibari but his shot from the angle is easily blocked.
Dortmund come forward with Ryerson on the right. The ball is played across to Sancho but the Englishman can't convert.

Good work down the left for the hosts to get in behind the BVB backline. The ball is fired across goal for Bakayoko at the back post, but he misses the target.

PSV are really attacking through Lozano now. The ball is worked out to the winger again and he cuts inside to make space for a shot.
His effort cannons back off the calf of Sabitzer. The Dortmund man goes down and will require treatment.

Second booking of the game goes to Emre Can, for a foul on the recipient of the first; Chucky Lozano.
More good work from Lozano, who jinks inside past Emre Can. The Dortmund midfielder feel forced to bring him down and concedes the foul.

That Dortmund goal have taken the stuffing out of the home crowd. PSV have had real chances in the opening 30 minutes but haven't been able to take them.

The German giants got off to a slow start but have grown into the game in the last ten minutes. They lead, courtesy of former PSV star Donyell Malen.

The picked up the ball on the edge of the box and shifted the ball onto his right foot. He took aim from a narrow angle but his effort deflects up off Dest and flies in off the crossbar.

Ian Maatsen curls in the ball from the left but the on-loan Chelsea man's free kick is easily rebuffed by PSV.

And the PSV man gets a booking for his trouble. He pulled the Dortmund man back, but a yellow card seems a little harsh.

Reus whips in a brilliant ball, whipped along the six-yard box. Ryersen gets his head on the ball from close range but can't direct it on target.

Malik Tillman does brilliantly to pinch the ball of Maatsen and finds himself through on goal, right of center. The USMNT youngster takes a heavy touch and looks to square the ball to De Jong but his pass is blocked.

PSV put through their paces
Luuk de Jong will be the man to watch for PSV Eindhoven, coming into the game of the back of an incredible goal-scoring run. The Dutch forward has recorded 19 goals and eight assists in 22 Eredivisie fixtures this season. The 33-year-old is one of the top scorers in Europe this year.
Hirving 'Chucky' Lozano starred for PSV Eindhoven from 2016-2018, leading the club to a famous Eredivise triumph. He made the move to Napoli after two seasons but returned to PSV last summer, a move that thrilled the Eindhoven faithful.
But his return has not been the glorious success that many had predicted. Lozano was the subject of widespread criticism last week, but has another chance to feature from the start against Dortmund.

The on-loan Chelsea star will make his first Champions League appearance at Philips Stadion today. The 21-year-old left back impressed with Burnley last year and joined Borussia Dortmund in January on a six-month loan deal.
PSV return to Champions League knockouts
For the first time since 2015/16, PSV Eindhoven are gearing up for a Champions League knockout clash. The Dutch giants have been on a barren run in recent years but they return to the Round-of-16 as one of the in-form teams in European soccer.
In the Eredivise PSV have not lost a game all season and they are ten points clear of reigning champions Feyenoord. Can this year be something special for Peter Bosz' side
The first knockout round of the Champions League continues today with two finely-poised matchups. The current UCL format involves two-legged ties from the Round-of-16 through to the semi-finals.
Both teams will play one game at home, the aggregate winner will progress. But what happens if the scores are tied?

The 2023/24 season has been far from perfect for Borussia Dortmund. They sit 17 points adrift of surprise Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen and were knocked out of the DFB-Pokal, but did make it through a tough Champions League group.
