Pulisic and Balogun to lead USMNT revival under Berhalter
The USA will face Uzbekistan and Oman this month, which will mark the return of Berhalter.
As they look forward to their upcoming September friendlies, the US national team is already preparing for Gregg Berhalter’s return, but they are doing so with two key stars: Christian Pulisic and Folarin Balogun.
Pulisic has had a great start to life with Milan in Serie A, and Balogun is expected to produce again in Ligue 1 this season after a fine campaign with Stade de Reims last time out.
Champions League players in US roster
In addition to the players already mentioned, Berhalter has the likes of Sergiño Dest, Ricardo Pepi, Brenden Aaronson, Yunus Musah and Malik Tillman at his disposal. They are joined by other experienced players such as Tim Ream, Matt Turner and Antonee Robinson, who have a wealth of Premier League experience.
Berhalter speaks out
In the week of his official return to the USMNT setup, Berhalter said: “We have different challenges over the next three years (leading up to the World Cup on home soil). Uzbekistan and Oman are our first opponents and both are preparing for the AFC Asian Cup.
The coach, who led the group to Qatar 2022, added: “We expect them to be good tests. We look forward to visiting two excellent football facilities and performing in front of fantastic fans in St. Louis and Minnesota.
