Christian Pulisic’s future at Chelsea up in the air

The American forward could join team-mates Antonio Rüdiger, Andreas Christensen, César Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso in leaving Chelsea.

Update:
Christian Pulisic’s future at Chelsea up in the air

Antonio Rüdiger, who has already bid farewell to Chelsea fans, will join Real Madrid this summer. The German defender will leave Stamford Bridge alongside his team-mate Andreas Christensen, who will join FC Barcelona. Spanish pair César Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso could also be heading for Camp Nou, leaving Chelsea with some work to do in the next transfer window.

According to The Guardian, “In attack there are doubts about Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner”. Despite still having two years left on his contract, Pulisic “is unhappy about his lack of playing time”. As many as 16 players in the current Chelsea squad have played more time in the London club’s matches than the American. The former Borussia Dortmund man has featured in a total of 2207 minutes this season, making a total of 38 appearances. Pulisic has scored eight goals and registered three assists.

Only players such as Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Callum Hudson-Odoi (out since March), Malang Sarr, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Saúl Ñíguez, Ben Chilwell (long-term injury) and Ross Barkley have played less than Chelsea’s number 10. Since arriving at Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2019, the American has seen less and less time in the club’s starting line-ups. From 27 starts in 2019/20, he dropped to 25 last term. If he starts against Watford, Pulisic will have made 22 starts in 2021/22.
