Pumas are their own worst enemy

Los Felinos occupy the last place in the Apertura 2025 fair play table, having collected the most yellow and red cards in the tournament.

Update:

As the Apertura 2025 tournament heats up, Pumas are battling to secure direct qualification for the playoffs. But while their on-field performance keeps them in contention, there’s one stat that paints a less flattering picture: Pumas currently rank as the worst team in Liga MX when it comes to fair play.

According to the official Liga MX fair play table, Pumas sit dead last among the 18 top-flight clubs. They’ve racked up a staggering 34 yellow cards and three reds so far, totaling 43 disciplinary points - the highest in the league.

While teams like Atlas, Querétaro, Santos, Pachuca, Necaxa, and Chivas also trail in the fair play standings, they still fare better than Los Universitarios. In the Apertura 2025 tournament, Pumas have earned the dubious distinction of being the league’s most penalized team.

Which is the cleanest team in the Apertura?

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Club Tijuana leads the fair play rankings. With just 20 yellow cards and a single red, Los Xolos have accumulated only 23 points - making them the cleanest team in the league to date. Of course, with the regular season still underway and the playoffs yet to begin, there’s room for movement in the standings.

For now, Pumas remain in the hunt for a direct playoff berth or a play-in spot. But their disciplinary record is a glaring concern. At least for the moment, they hold the title of Liga MX’s least disciplined team - though the gap between them and Atlas is just seven points.
