Pumas close in on Thiago Vecino
According to reports in Uruguayan media, Liverpool forward Thiago Vecino could be on his way to UNAM.
One of the Liga MX clubs who has not yet finalized its squad for the new campaign and is still looking to make reinforcement (or cover possible departures) is Pumas UNAM. According to the Uruguayan sports media, the Universitarios are close to signing 24-year-old forward Thiago Vecino.
The left-sided forward, who has been on the books at Montevideo-based Liverpool for the past couple of years, is finalizing his transfer to Pumas, as reported by ESPN’s Sebastián Giovanelli: “Thiago Vecino is one signature away from being a Pumas player”.
Cerro Porteño linked
Meanwhile, Uruguayan journalist, Bambino Etchegoyen revealed: “Just when it seemed that Thiago Vecino would play in Cerro Porteño in Paraguay, there was a change of plans and he us heading to Mexico.”
Vecino began his career at Montevideo-based side Nacional in 2017. In January 2022, he took a crucial step by joining city rivals Liverpool - a move which had a significant impact on his performance. During his time at Liverpool, he managed to score 15 goals in 37 games, and also participated in the Copa Sudamericana.
He had had a brief spell on loan in Argentina with CA Unión at the beginning of last year - returning to Liverpool after just five months. In his return, he was part of the side that clinched the Uruguayan First Division title, contributing seven goals in 17 games.
