Pumas don’t know what to do with Keylor
The Costa Rican's contract ends in six months and the board is analyzing whether to renew it or release him.

Pumas captain and goalkeeper Keylor Navas still does not know whether his contract will be renewed with six months remaining on his deal. In an interview with ESPN, Antonio Sancho provided more detail: “We’ll start talking to see what Keylor’s ideas are as well. I think he’s a great professional because of the career he’s had and what he brings. We’ve seen that over the last three games and, honestly, he’s delivered outstanding performances.”
“At the right time we’ll talk to him to understand what he wants and what we want,” the executive added. “We hope he can continue playing for a long time, but now it’s time to sit down and talk.” Asked about rumors suggesting a possible retirement from the Costa Rica national team, he said: “I don’t know where that came from. Maybe it’s a personal matter, but I haven’t spoken to him about that.”

Celebrate J.J. Macías’s renewal
He also welcomed the contract renewal of J.J. Macías. Sancho explained that extending the Mexican striker – once again sidelined by injuries – was linked to a commitment inherited from the previous administration led by Miguel Mejía Barón. “He was renewed for one year. Honestly, it’s a great stance by the board to support him. Since he arrived, he’s committed himself and delivered results, so we hope José Juan can come back in the best possible way,” he said.
“The idea is for him to recover his best level and be able to continue with us,” Sancho concluded. “The renewal was done with his rehabilitation in mind, so he can recover from a serious injury. He’ll be out for most of the year, but with the expectation that he can return before the end of the year so we can sit down and talk about what comes next.”
