Pumas set to search for new coach during FIFA window
The board of directors hope to have a head coach in place for matchday 13 of the Clausura as Pumas face Queretaro.
After losing to the Pachuca at the Estadio Ciudad Universitaria on Sunday, the board of directors at Pumas decided to act quickly and removed Rafael Puente from his position later the same evening. The club now begin the search for a new head coach with the university side in trouble as they languish in the lower reaches of the 2023 Clausura table.
Diario Récord maintain that the board decided that the timing was key to the decision with Liga MX taking a break to allow international games and this permits more time for the search process. They also claim that Pumas are ruling taking someone in on a temporary basis and are looking for an individual who can address the problems on the field and take the club forward.
Pumas lie in 16th place overall in the table with 11 points and have time to turn things around and secure at least a twelfth place that would secure post-season football.
Pumas face Querétaro and Atlético de San Luis before facing three tough tests to conclude the 2023 Clausura as they face high flying Toluca before going head-to-head with América and Monterrey.
