After France became the first team to qualify for the last 16 of World Cup 2022 on Saturday, three teams could join Les Bleus in the knockout stages in Sunday’s matchday-two games.

Belgium will definitely go through if they beat Morocco in Group F, while Japan and Spain both need a win coupled with the right result elsewhere in Group E.

Meanwhile, three countries - Canada, Costa Rica and four-time world champions Germany - could be knocked out on Sunday.

AS USA live-text coverage:

World Cup games today, Sunday 27 November (all times ET)

Group E: Japan vs Costa Rica - 5am

After a stunning come-from-behind win over Germany in their opening Group E game, Japan face a Costa Rica side that received a 7-0 matchday-one thumping by Spain. The Japanese will book their last-16 spot if they beat Los Ticos and the Germans fail to defeat Spain later in the day.

As for Costa Rica, their elimination will be confirmed if they lose to the Samurai Blue and Germany don’t beat Spain.

Group F: Belgium vs Morocco - 8am

Belgium were far from impressive in their 1-0 victory over Canada on Wednesday, but Les Diables Rouges are now in a position to secure a knockout-stage berth with a game to spare. Three points against Morocco will do it.

Roberto Martínez’s men face a Moroccan team that began with a point in a goalless draw with 2018 runners-up Croatia on Wednesday.

Group F: Croatia vs Canada - 11am

Left to rue Alphonso Davies’ first-half penalty miss, Canada were unlucky to lose to Belgium on matchday one, in their first World Cup game since 1986. The Canucks are now in grave danger of being eliminated: John Herdman’s men will be officially out if they suffer defeat to Croatia on Sunday.

Group E: Spain vs Germany - 2pm

Following their shock defeat to Japan, Germany have little margin for error left as they prepare to face Spain in a heavyweight Group E clash. Die Mannschaft will be condemned to a second straight group-stage exit if they lose to La Roja and Costa Rica don’t beat Japan.

Spain, on the other hand, head into matchday two top of the group, having served up a sublime display in Wednesday’s walloping of Costa Rica. Luis Enrique’s men will guarantee themselves a place in the last 16 if they defeat the Germans and Costa Rica draw or lose against Japan.
