Los Gallos Blancos fought until the bitter end but a 0-0 draw against Tigres was not enough and they no longer have any chances of qualifying for the playoffs.

The Clausura 2023 is over for Los Gallos. In another disappointing tournament for Querétaro, Mauro Gerk’s team bravely attempted to secure a result in Sunday’s match against Tigres, which they played as if it were a final. A victory was the only result that would have kept them alive in the tournament.

Unfortunately, their efforts were in vain - a goalless draw at Estadio Corregidora left them out of the running and now there is nothing more they can do.

The Gallos Blancos had held out hope of sneaking into the top 12. They are unbeaten their last five games (two wins and three draws) - partly thanks to goalkeeper Gil Alcalá who has kept their hopes alive with a string of superb performances, enabling the team to make up for a poor start to the tournament. Querétaro had to wait until Week 10 to register their first win in the Clausura 2023 - a 1-0 victory over Toluca, the first of just three wins. Gerk’s team have drawn eight games - an inability to win games which has left them 13th in the table on 17 points with two games left to play and without the possibility of fighting for the playoffs.

Where do Querétaro rank in the percentage table? Will they be fined?

As stipulated in Article 23 of the 2022-2023 Competition Regulations: “If a Club occupies the last place in the Quotient Table, but due to the place it occupies in the General Classification Table, it could participate in the Final Phase of the Tournament Clausura 2023, it will not be able to participate in said phase and would be obliged to give up its place to the next best-ranked Club”.

On top of that, Querétaro will be hit with an economic fine of 80 million pesos for its position as the team in last place of the Quotient table.
