Raúl González Blanco’s work at Real Madrid Castilla has not gone unnoticed. The Madrid reserve team boss has declined an offer from Leeds United to become Jesse Marsch’s successor in the last few hours. The poor run of results at the Yorkshire club has led to Jesse Marash’s sacking and Victor Orta, Leeds’ sporting director, now has to look for a new head coach at Elland Road.

The English side wanted to hand over the reins to Raúl, who is currently in the midst of a promotion race with Castilla. However, the timing, according to the Madrid legend and the club, is not ideal and that has put him off. Raúl does not want to leave the club in the middle of the season.

German interest

His development as a coach is unquestionable and he has already begun to attract interest across Europe. It is not the first time that Raúl has been linked with another job; Eintracht Frankfurt, Schalke and some Spanish teams have already shown an interest.

Raúl’s Castilla are currently second in Primera Federación Group I behind only Alcorcón, with who they drew against this weekend. His dream is to coach Madrid’s first team one day. For now, he will stay in the Spanish capital, as clubs from Europe’s top leagues show their interest in the former No. 7.
