Real Madrid confirm Eduardo Camavinga injury: how long will the Madrid midfielder be out for?
The Real Madrid and France midfielder is now set for a spell on the sidelines.
Real Madrid have confirmed Eduardo Camavinga’s injury in a statement released on Friday. The midfielder has “ruptured the external lateral ligament in his right knee” as a result of a clash with France winger Ousmane Dembélé in a training session on Wednesday. The LaLiga club expect the midfielder to be out for between eight and ten weeks.
Camavinga’s potential return date
The MRI scan that Camavinga underwent this morning confirmed that it was not a sprain but a rupture, which lengthens the possible time out of action. The club initially believed his recovery period would be a maximum of eight weeks, but it could now be a couple of weeks longer. This puts the midfielder’s presence in the Spanish Super Cup in serious jeopardy. Madrid will play their first game in Saudi Arabia in the semi-finals against Atlético Madrid on 10 January and Camavinga may not return to action until 21 January, when Los Blancos face Almería at the Bernabéu.
Kroos to come in for Madrid
It is of course a setback for Camavinga and for Carlo Ancelotti, who will use Toni Kroos as the pivot. Aurélien Tchouaméni - also sidelined - is expected to return a couple of weeks before Camavinga. Castilla midfielder Mario Martín, who made his Real Madrid debut last season, could also be called into the first-team squad as Ancelotti deals with more injuries.
