Real Madrid have confirmed Rodrygo suffered an injury in Saturday’s 4-0 victory against Osasuna, in which he was forced off the field in the first half after only 20 minutes. Teammate Eder Militão suffered a second ACL tear in a little over a year shortly afterwards, while Lucas Vázquez is also set for a spell on the sidelines.

What injury does Rodrygo have?

“Following tests carried out today by the Real Madrid Medical Services on our player Rodrygo, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the rectus femoris muscle in his left leg,” reads a statement on the club’s website. “His progress will be monitored”.

AS sources claim the Brazilian attacker is expected to be absent for five to six weeks as a result of the issue, which affects the thigh.

The timing of the injury could, at least, have been worse from Madrid’s point of view. The weekend win was their last game before the November international break, with their next fixture not until Sunday, November 24 (away to Leganés).

Which Real Madrid games will Rodrygo miss?

The games Rodrygo is likely to miss will depend on whether his recovery does indeed take five or six weeks, as is being predicted. First of all, he will be forced to sit out Brazil’s two 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela (November 14) and Uruguay (November 19).

The best-case scenario (five weeks) would see the 23-year-old miss the aforementioned clash against Leganés and six others, including the mouthwatering Champions League meeting with Liverpool at Anfield (November 27) and away games against Athletic Club, Girona and Atalanta.

If Rodrygo were to ultimately spend six weeks on the sidelines, he would also miss the FIFA Intercontinental Cup final in Qatar (December 18), and potentially the LaLiga fixture at home to Sevilla on the weekend of on 22-23 December.
