While Real Madrid are gearing up to play in yet another Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund at Wembley on Saturday, the LaLiga giants are also thinking about the future, which inevitably means the signing of Kylian Mbappé.
When will Mbappé officially sign for Real Madrid? Dates
Club bosses are planning to make the France captain’s arrival from Paris Saint-Germain official after the Champions League final. Regardless of whether Madrid win or lose against Dortmund, Mbappé is expected to sign on the dotted line between Monday 3 and Wednesday 5 June, which will bring to an end one of the longest-running transfer sagas any of us can remember.
Various dates have been discussed between the club and Mbappé's camp regarding his official unveiling, with the upcoming 2024 European Championship complicating matters somewhat.
When will Mbappé's Real Madrid unveiling take place?
The most likely scenario is that it will take place after the tournament in Germany, potentially after Sunday 14 July, if France reach the final. However, if they are eliminated earlier than expected, it could even be moved forward to as early as Sunday 30 June, the date Mbappé's contract with PSG expires.
Two of the dates that have been most seriously looked at are Monday 15 and Tuesday 16 July, which would allow the forward to fully concentrate on the Euros before linking up with his new club. The expectation is that he would then be given some time off ahead of starting pre-season.
After seven years, the Frenchman’s on-off move to Spain is finally set go through. In 2017, then Monaco starlet Mbappé chose PSG rather than Real Madrid, although the 14-time European champions are now set to be rewarded for their patience.
Speaking to CNN just a few days ago in Sardinia, Italy, the 25-year-old himself shed light on the timeline of his impending switch to the Santiago Bernabéu: “When will my next club be announced? It’s only a matter of days...I think it will be made official soon and now I just want to enjoy this time without a club. I have my contract with PSG, so someone is paying me for the moment,” Mbappé revealed. One door has closed, another one is finally about to open.
