Former Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos could be set for a move across the Atlantic, with Brazilian club Corinthians hoping to sign him for the 2025 season.

The São Paulo giants have had difficult 2024 in Brazil’s Serie A and were even in danger of suffering relegation before winning their last three games. Now, they haven’t given up hope of sneaking into next year’s Copa Libertadores and executive director Fabinho Soldado has revealed they would like to have Ramos on board.

“There are several names that come up during the transfer window when you are at that important time of the year. Not only Sergio (Ramos) has been mentioned, but many others. We have analysed them, and of course we have to prioritise the position we want to strengthen. Finances are important and we will always make the best choice for Corinthians,” explained Soldado.

Corinthians travel to Spain to negotiate with Ramos

The veteran Spanish centre-back, who is a free agent after his contract with Sevilla expires in the summer, is still training alone as he looks for a new adventure before finishing his career. He has also be linked with Flamengo, Botafogo and Vasco da Gama, also of Brazil, as well as teams in Saudi Arabia and Qatar. He will not, however, be rejoining Real Madrid.

According to ESPN, Corinthians have already held advanced talks to sign Ramos, with several directors having travelled to Spain twice to convince him to make the move. The 38-year-old would join former Barcelona and Manchester United attacker Memphis Depay at the club, who also have ex-Philadelphia Union midfielder José Martínez and Diego Palacios, once of LAFC, on their roster.

Corinthians have five games to go until the end of the Brazilian season and will step up their pursuit of Ramos once the on-field action is over, if they aren’t able to do a deal before then.
