Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti is likely to rotate his side for their trip to Villarreal, as Los Blancos continue their preparations for the upcoming Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund on June 1.

The Real Madrid manager has a plan for the ‘Yellow Submarine’: he will switch up his team against Villarreal and revert back to the starters next week, against Real Betis, a day that will act as a dress rehearsal for Wembley.

However, this this Sunday is more of a moment to maintain the competitive pace without any unnecessary risks: Villarreal must go for the win to increase their chances of getting European football next season and as such, an intense match is expected. There are only two confirmed starters in Ancelotti’s side: Lunin and Güler.

Will Courtois or Lunin play for Real Madrid in the Champions League final?

As for the goalkeeper, it will be his farewell to the season: after 30 games and 12 clean sheets, it will be the last time he gets any action in between the sticks. Barring a relapse, the plan is for Courtois to play against Betis, confirm his recovery to be fully complete and be the starting stopper in the Champions League final.

On Sunday, Andriy will say goodbye to what has been the best season of his life, one that has exceeded any expectations, one which has elevated him in the history of the club and rolled out the red carpet towards a renewal: his signing until 2029 is almost imminent.

The Los Blancos defence will be made up of Lucas Vázquez, Militão, Rüdiger and Fran García. There is some small doubt around the German, since Nacho is not ruled out for Carletto, but he will likely rest and play next week, alongside the former Chelsea defender.

Real Madrid possible XI:

GK: Lunin

DEF: Lucas Vázquez - Militão - Rüdiger - Fran García

MID: Güler - Ceballos - Camavinga - Modric

ATT: Brahim - Joselu

In the middle, without Tchouaméni (injured), the pivot position will go to Camavinga, who will be accompanied by Modric, Ceballos and Güler. Up front, Brahim and Joselu are set to start: the marksmen of Ancelotti’s ‘Plan B’ that has worked so well on previous occasions in Real Madrid’s LaLiga triumph.

Real Madrid take on Villarreal on May 19, 2024 at 1:00 PM ET / 10: AM PT at the Estadio de la Cerámica in Eastern Spain. The away side have already wrapped up the LaLiga title while Villarreal, led by Marcelino, sit in 8th and are on the cusp on reaching European qualification.
