Villarreal have the chance to join Barcelona in joint-second when they take on Real Betis tonight.

On Madrid performance

"The problems were predictable. They defended very well, they scored from set pieces, it was difficult for us to get into the game. We didn't play fantastically well, but played much better in the second half," the Italian said.

Mallorca had the lead through a fine Muriqi header but were unable to maintain their lead as Madrid came storming back.

Fede Valverde scored a brilliant solo goal to equalise for Madrid right on half-time. For 25 minutes after the break, Madrid didn't look like scoring, until Vinicius came up with another timely finish. Rodrygo and Rudiger added goals three and four to send Ancelott's men ahead of rivals Barcelona and back to the top of the table.

The Uruguayan picks the ball up in his own half before driving with it for over 50 yards. He then unleashes a left-footed strike into the top corner from outside the box. A brilliant solo goal.

Vinicius shoots from outside the box. It's close, but not close enough and despite the curl he generates, it's just wide. 

Mallorca, who have kept Madrid out until now, will be praying they keep their lead until half-time. 

Hazard catches Raíllo with an elbow but it does look accidental as he's holding up the ball.

It's a brilliant header from the big striker, who gives Mallorca a shock lead at the Bernabéu!

Valverde shoots over from around 30 yards. Mallorca will be delighted with their start. Madrid are playing outside the Mallorca box, where there is no real danger.

The referee has stopped play for a water break. And right before they went for a sip, Ceballos smashed a shot straight at Battaglia, who is receiving treatment for getting his head in the way. 0-0 

Ancelotti's side are creating all the half-chances. Rodrygo picks up a loose ball on the edge of the box. His low left-footed strike is straight at Rajković.

Madrid continue to shoot from distance to no avail. Rudiger finds himself closer to goal than usual. His strike flies over the bar.

Kroos is next to try his luck but it's plain sailing for Rajković. The German midfielder curls one from about 25 yards but fails to inject any power into it. 0-0

Rodrygo picks up the ball near the halfway line. He goes on a mazy run, ending up just outside the box. His shot sails over the bar. An impressive run all the same. 

It's about 20 yards from goal. 

Alaba and Kroos are over it. It's Kroos and it's into the wall!

Nastasić fouls Lucas Vázquez on the edge of the box. Madrid have a free in a dangerous position...

Vinicius is down and he's asking what is going on. It's Maffeo again!

Mallorca are defending in a 5-4-1. Madrid are linking up well but have so far failed to break down Aguirre's compact backline. 

Kroos then picks it up 25 yards from goal and tries his luck from distance. It fizzes just wide! 0-0

Reborn Hazard set for Real Madrid No. 9 role in Benzema absence

Eden Hazard’s goal against Celtic was only the second he has scored in the Champions League since he arrived at Real Madrid in the summer 2019.

The first, against Inter Milan, was a penalty in 2020. In all, the Belgian has mustered just seven goals in 69 games in a Madrid career that has been dogged by injuries ever since he had his ankle broken by international colleague Thomas Meunier in November 2019, in a European clash with Paris Saint-Germain. With his strike at Celtic Park, he took a weight off his shoulders.
