Real Madrid 1-1 Osasuna
Real Madrid-Osasuna: match report
Points shared at the Santiago Bernabeu as a dogged Osasuna rode their luck at times and will look to the Benzema penalty miss as a key moment in the action.
Vini Jr, once again was the star player for Ancelotti's team with the Brazilian opening the scoring in the first half as speculative cross managed to trick Herrera in the Osasuna goal and end up in the net.
Credit to Osasuna who never threw in the towel and saw their persistence pay off as Kike Garcia looped the ball past the sprawling Lunin in the 51st minute to pull the side from Pamplona level.
Madrid pressed as the clock ticked down and most of the 60,000 crowd at the Bernabeu would have felt that the 100% winning run was set to continue when VAR confirmed that David Garcia's push on Benzema was a spot kick but the French striker drilled the ball against the crossbar with the Osasuna defender red carded.
Barcelona are the next visitors to the Bernabeu in LaLiga in a fortnight and the first El Clasico of the new season is shaping up very nicely indeed.

It's all over in Madrid and the game ends 1-1
The clock ticks down and as things stand, Madrid allow Barcelona to move to the top of the table with Xavi's side winning 0-1 in Mallorca last night.
The El Clasico in two weeks is bubbling along nicely.
Mariano goes close but his header drifts over the Osasuna bar. 2 minutes of added time left.
We'll have five minutes of added time.
Can the 10 men of Osasuna hang on ?
Will Real Madrid let their perfect winning run slip ?
Moi Gomez almost find the Real Madrid net in the final seconds of the 90.
Militao and Mariano both unable to latch onto a whipped ball from Vini Jr. The Brazilian is without the key danger man for Ancelotti's men tonight and exudes confidence every time he is on the ball.
Osasuna sitting very deep now as Madrid launch a series of attacks but each one thwarted by the men in red.
Vini with a great shot from just outside the box but Herrera saves well.
Another change imminent for Ancelotti as Mariano is poised to come on for Dani Carvajal.
Madrid win yet another corner as they continue to press looking for a winner to maintain their superb start and winning run.

The ball is in the Osasuna net but the flag is up and this may not stand with Benzema seeming to be offisde.
What a major moment of drama... the penalty, the red card, VAR and the crossbar from the French striker
Wow... so, 1-1 with just over ten minutes left and Osasuna down to ten men
Benzema steps up... The Frenchman rattles the bar and it remains 1-1
Herrera did save two spot kicks from Benzema last season as David Garcia is red carded too.
Was the striker on-side though? Yes appears to be the answer and a great chance for Madrid to pull ahead.
VAR to be consulted and this will be a spot kick
Big call from Benzema for a spot kick. Ref says no initially.
Osasuna in no hurry now to take any dead ball. Garcia is clipped by Militao and is happy to stay on the surface and just try and slow down any momentum Madrid have built.
Finally we see Vini Jr weave some magic as he finds Camavinga but Osasuna are adept in defending and the danger is averted.
Madrid just 15 mins away from letting their perfect start slip as Kroos and Mendy make way for Asensio and Militao.
Another lightning counter from Osasuna which ends in Los Rojillos winning a corner as Arrasate makes two changes:
Abde and Darko off for Peña and Oroz
Herrera spills a cross and the ball falls dangerously as David Garcia takes no prisoners and whacks the ball out for a corner.
A slight lull in the game with the Osasuna goal taking the wind out of the home supporters. Madrid have been a little slow in their build up play this evening and we've yet to see any magic from Vini Jr in the second 45',
Rodrygo skips into the box and just as the Brazilian shapes to shoot, he leans back and fires the ball high and over the bar.
We reach the hour mark of the contest and it remains 1-1 at the Bernabeu. The scoreline would see Bacelona top the table tonight.
Alaba shoots but fails to secure the necessary accuracy as Osasuna's Herrera is in no hurry to take the resulting goal kick.
Camavinga is clipped by Moi Gomez and this is a decent opening for Madrid. Ideal distance for Alaba
Real Madrid changes:
Tchouameni and Ceballos off with Camavinga and Valverde on
Almost 1-2 as Kike Garcia fluffs his lines and pulls the ball wide with the goal gaping
Fine ball from Unai Garcia and a deft touch from the former Eibar man whose goal sends the 700 travelling fans into raptures
Kike Garcia it is as the veteran striker flicks the ball over Lunin
Osasuna draw level !
Real Madrid subs start to warm up on the touchline... Asensio, Camavinga and Valverde all undergoing drills pitchside.
Abde carded as he clips Carvajal
Both teams are back on the Bernabeu pitch and it's the home side to get the action underway.
Arrasate will be disappointed to be behind at the break but having said that, his side have not really stretched Lunin in the Real Madrid goal.
Madrid have been solid without been scintillating with the most unorthodox goal of the season making the difference between the teams.
The whistle sounds and it's 1-0 at the interval.
Far from a classic but as things stand, Los Blancos retake the lead at the summit of LaLiga.
First card of the night is awarded for Ceballos as he clips an Osasuna man
Into the final minute we go and it's Madrid who will head into the dressing room ahead through that Vini Jr strike.

Poor from Herrera in the Osasuna goal as the men in red appeal for offside.
VAR checks and the goal stands.
Madrid take the lead and it's Vini from long distance as the keeper is wrong footed
Into the final five minutes we go with that Benzema shot the closest we've come to opening the scoring tonight. Osasuna a little rattled now as Vini Jr appeals for more noise from the home supporters.
Best chance of the night falls to Benzema as Vini Jr finds the French striker after a great run and the ball is volleyed inches wide. That has given the fans at the Bernabeu a jolt.
A fourth corner for Madrid as the men in white apply a little more pressure now. Osasuna counter and the ball falls to Moi Gomez who drives wastefully wide. Great chance for the visitors who caught Madrid napping from the corner.
Shots on target: Real Madrid 1-1 Osasuna
Shots off target: Real Madrid 2-2 Osasuna
Lunin called into action again as he gathers well from a shot from Moncoyola. It's a cagey contest so far in the Spanish capital.
A draw here tonight would see Barcelona retain their lead at the top of the table and also see Madrid end the dream of improving on the best ever start in the club's history.
David Garcia gives the ball away cheaply but the referee comes to his aid as he whistles for a free and saves the Osasuna player's blushes.
Good news as the referee sounds his whistle and the game resumes.
Play is held up as it appears there is an issue with a spectator.
Approaching the 20 minute mark and Real Madrid have gone off the boil as Osasuna are looking compact and comfortable on the new lush Santiago Bernabeu pitch
A fine delivery from Carvajal was telegraphed for Benzema's head but Mendy breaks in and steals the ball off the French strikers head with Benzema in a much better position to head.
Real Madrid well ahead in terms of possession in the opening stage of tonight's league contest.
Fine work from Abde with the former Barcelona man driving the ball into the side netting of the Real Madrid goal.
Lunin gets a touch at his first ever LaLiga start at the Bernabeu and the Ukrainian handles the back pass well clearing it to a team-mate.
Past the ten minute mark and still nothing resembling a clear-cut chance for either side. Madrid enjoying the better in terms of possession but Osasuna look dangerous on their left hand side.
Madrid starting to look comfortable now as Vini and Rodrygo look menacing for the visiting defenders marauding down both flanks.
Madrid now enjoying the bulk of possession as they win two corners in quick succession ... Cruz clears and it's a third corner for the home side. Dubious keeping from Herrera with the keeper almost complicating things for his defenders as he totally misreads a cross.
Bright start from the visitors with Cruz at the heart of Osasuna's build-up on their left hand side.
So, what can Madrid deliver tonight? Will the men in white feel the pressure knowing that they are just three games away from making history to the best start ever in the club's history?
Off we go at the Bernabeu.
Before ko, we'll have a minutes silence for the victims of the Indonesia tragedy
On the bench tonight is Fede Valverde with the Uruguayan player picking up his LaLiga MVP award for the month of September.
The teams are in the tunnel... Madrid set to sport their iconic all white with Los Rojillos in their traditional red shirts, navy shorts and socks.
Courtois out-Lunin in
For those wondering where Thibaut Courtois is tonight.... the Belgian was ruled out earlier on Sunday with a sciatica problem affecting the keeper. Andriy Lunin makes a rare LaLiga appearance for Real Madrid.
Less than ten minutes ahead of kick-off. Once again, renovation work on the iconic stadium means that capacity is capped at just over 60,000 and there is a decent presence of red clad Osasuna fans present tonight too.

Real Madrid-Osasuna: match day weather
It's an extremely mild early October evening in the Spanish capital with a current temperature of 25C/77F and 0% possibility of rainfall during the LaLiga contest. Excellent conditions for players and spectators alike.
Ancelotti: "We're at a crucial stage of the season"
Speaking to the press ahead of Sunday's game, the Italian acknowledged the test that lies ahead with a packed schedule for his side. "It's a key stage of the season and the challenge is to deliver in every single match. We have to put together a strong run in LaLiga and qualify for the Champions League Round of 16 before World Cup. The team looks good, they're motivated and showing great attitude", he added.
Arrasate: 'We head to Madrid looking for points'
Speaking to the media ahead of Sunday's clash, the Osasuna manager stated: “We are expecting the same Real Madrid that has won nine games across all competitions. I can tell that when I get their starting eleven, I know every player there is top quality. Whether we see one player or another, they are all good,” Arrasate said.
Real Madrid-Osasuna: match official
Guillermo Cuadra Fernández has been assigned by the Spanish FA to oversee tonight's clash at the Santiago Bernabeu. The 38-year-old is ranked as a UEFA second category referee.
Real Madrid on track for best start ever in club’s 120 year history
Should Ancelotti’s men beat Osasuna, Shakhtar and Getafe, they would record the best start to a season in the club’s 120-year history with the current record held by Miguel Muñoz, with 11 wins.
Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid are three wins away from writing a major chapter in the club’s history books. The current record for the best start to a season belongs to Miguel Muñoz and his Madrid side from the 1960s. At the start of the 1961-62 season, the coach oversaw 11 consecutive wins in the opening matches of the campaign (including the League and the European Cup).
At present Carlo Ancelotti’s Madrid have won nine in a row: the first six league games, two Champions League games and the UEFA Super Cup in August.
Osasuna XI named
Jago Arrasate confirms the starting XI that will look to dent Real Madrid's winning start to the 2022-23 LaLiga campaign as striker Kike García makes his 40th LaLiga appearance in an Osasuna shirt today.

New surface at the Bernabeu tonight
Following complaints from players to the state of the Santiago Bernabeu pitch ahead of the international break, the club have moved quickly in replacing the old surface and installing a new lush looking pitch that will make its LaLiga debut tonight for the visit of Osasuna.
Real Madrid maintain their relentless winning start to the season coming into tonight's game on the back of a win against Atletico in the Madrid derby a fortnight ago.
Two wins and two defeats from the following games see Osasuna currently sit in a respectable 7th place in the table after a super start for Arrasate and his men.
No Chimy for Osasuna
The side from Pamplona will be without their effervescent Argentine with the striker ruled out of tonight's game following suspension after being red carded in Osasuna's last outing as they fell at home to Getafe (0-2)
Lunin set to man the sticks
The Ukraine international is set for only his sixth Real Madrid appearance in official competitions with the 23-year-old generally being used by the club as a back-up keeper and the bulk of his first team activity has come during Copa del Rey games.

Perez claims football is sick
Real Madrid held their AGM on Sunday morning with club president Florentino Perez taking the opportunity to complain about his view on the state of the game.
One of Perez’s primary arguments for the concept was to allow Europe’s elite to play one another more often, though Madrid did face Inter, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool on their way to winning the Champions League last season.
“To fix a problem, you have to first recognise that you have a problem,” Perez said at the club’s AGM on Sunday. “Our sport is sick. It is losing its leadership as a global sport.
“In tennis, Nadal and Federer have played 40 times in 15 years. Nadal and Djokovic have played 59 matches in 16 years,” Perez added.
“In football, we’ve only played Liverpool nine times in 67 years. We’ve played Chelsea four times in the history of the European Cup. What sense does it make to deprive fans of all these games?”
The European Super League drive has not gone away !
Osasuna look to 1990 and 2004 as inspiration
Wins for the men from Pamplona at the Bernabeu are something of a rarity but fans of 'Los Rojillos' will be encouraged by the visits to the capital in 1990 and 2004 as they put four and three goals past Real Madrid without reply!

Madrid start as strong favourites
'Los Blancos' have scored at least two goals in each of their nine wins this term (in all competitions) and only one of their last 31 league games at home has ended in defeat.
Ancelotti names RM XI
The return of Benzema is confirmed with the striker also taking back the captain's armband. A midweek clash against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League and a heavy October schedule sees the Italian coach giving starts to the likes of Ceballos, Tchouameni and Rudiger.

No Courtois
