Real Madrid set to land Tchouaméni: five-year deal, €80M

RMC revealed the figures for Tchouaméni’s move to Madrid. Mbappé's decision to stay at PSG means Madrid can activate their plan to sign the French midfielder.

Failure to lure Kylian Mbappé to the Bernabéu won’t stop Real Madrid from strengthening other areas of the squad and one deal which is gathering pace is that concerning Aurélien Tchouaméni. According to RMC Sport, the Monaco midfielder will sign a five-year deal with Madrid for 80 million euros. Tchouaméni has been on the club’s agenda for the past four months but the operation was always going to be conditioned by how much the Mbappé operation would have cost. Now that the Mbappé deal is off, Madrid have turned their attentions to another battle in the transfer market.

Tchouaméni has been targeted by Liverpool and PSG. Mbappé has requested that the Ligue 1 side reinforces the squad as one of the conditions for him to sign a new deal and on Sunday, according to Le Parisien, Al-Khelaïfi and soon-to-be-appointed Director of Sport Luis Campos called the young midfielder’s agent. But reports by another French outlet, RMC Sports, claim that PSG are definitively out of the race for Tchouaméni because the player has already decided that he wants to leave Ligue 1 this summer.

That would benefit Madrid. Liverpool, Madrid’s rivals for Tchouaméni as well as in Saturday’s Champions League final, are also pessimistic about landing the 22-year-old. The Liverpool Echo cited club sources who have been told by the player’s agents that Madrid are the favourites to sign him.

Camavinga tactic

The modus operandi will be similar to the one which Real Madrid employed last summer with Camavinga. There was a basic agreement in place with the player and Rennes but the transfer was put on hold indefinitely because it depended on whether PSG would accept Madrid’s famous 180 million euro offer for Mbappé at the end of August. Almost as soon as Madrid’s bid was rejected, they reacted within 24 hours by sealing Camavinga’s transfer. He signed on transfer deadline day...

Madrid are under less pressure in this case but will use the same tactics. Tchouaméni’s plan was to finish the season with Monaco before dealing with his departure. Last Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Lens brought the season to a close (Tchouaméni ended as the player with the most in recoveries in Ligue 1 - 187) and now his future is looking a little clearer.
