Life can take countless unexpected turns. One day, you are born into a refugee camp in Ghana; the next, you’re playing in MLS with the Vancouver Whitecaps. Soon after, you’re a world-class player. This has been the career path of Canada’s Alphonso Davies, who now faces a major decision for next season.

Davies has become a cornerstone for his German club, Bayern Munich, but Real Madrid are keen to bring him to Spain.

Despite this interest, Bayern Munich remain hopeful of retaining him. In an interview with the German media outlet Ran, Bayern’s sporting director, Max Eberl, commented on Davies’ future, saying that “the possibilities (of a renewal) are there.”

Recently, Bayern manager Vincent Kompany praised Davies, stating, “He is a top player. Some people said he wasn‘t that good last season, but I didn’t see it that was. He has been very consistent, and of course, he can go up a level.”

While Bayern are determined to keep Davies, Real Madrid and Manchester United are both strongly interested in signing Canada’s star player next summer. On November 2, Davies turned 24. With over 200 appearances for Bayern, where he has scored 11 goals and made 34 assists, including a memorable goal against Real Madrid in the Champions League, he could soon find himself in Spain.

For Madrid, Davies is a top priority in next year’s transfer market, as Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia have yet to prove themselves as reliable left-back options. Davies would bring depth and stability to the left side of the field.

Manchester United, too, could benefit from his addition, as they currently have Nasser Mazraoui playing out of position at left-back, making Davies’ skill set highly desirable for the Premier League club.
