Real Madrid’s push to sign Alphonso Davies continues, with the LaLiga giants doing everything in their power to prevent the Canadian from extending his contract with Bayern Munich. The Bundesliga champions have been in talks with the left-back’s agent for some time and have put a number offers on the table in an attempt to tie him down beyond 2025, when his current deal expires. However, Sky Germany claim Madrid head scout Juni Calafat has spoken to Davies specifically to ask him not to sign a contract extension in Bavaria.

What are Davies’ salary demands?

The German broadcaster say Los Blancos have been in touch with the 23-year-old’s camp for several months and insist they will make an official move for him in the summer. As it stands, Davies is still willing to discuss terms with Bayern, who have as yet been unable to match his wage demands. The former Vancouver Whitecaps defender is looking for a salary of €13 million ($14.21 million) per season, which the six-time European champions are not willing to pay. The Canada international is thought to be settled in Germany otherwise, although it does appear as if Bayern will agree to sell him if they are unable to convince him to extend his deal.

Hainer and Tuchel hopeful Canadian stays with Bayern

Club president Herbert Hainer has repeated on a number of occasions that everything possible will be done to ensure Davies stays. “He has become one of the best defenders in the world with us. We obviously want to keep him and I hope that’s also what he wants,” Hainer said towards the end of 2023.

Manager Thomas Tuchel added: “He is our player and a key part of our team. He knows we hold him in high regard and that’s something that really reassures me as a coach. It doesn’t change anything for me, regardless of the players’ contracts. Christoph Freund (sports director) and Jan Dreesen (CEO) are in charge of that. I have total confidence they will manage it (to extend Davies’ contract).”
