Real Madrid and Eintracht Frankfurt will meet for the first time in over six decades in Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup, which is to be played in Helsinki.

The teams’ only previous competitive meeting came in Madrid’s famous European Cup final win over the Germans in 1960, when a side led by Alfredo di Stéfano and Ferenc Puskás won 7-3 in Glasgow.

After reaching the Super Cup by claiming a 14th European title in May’s Champions League final against Liverpool, Madrid now have the opportunity to win the continental curtain-raiser for a joint-record fifth time. Los Blancos currently have four Super Cups to their name - one fewer than AC Milan and arch rivals Barcelona.
This will be Madrid’s eighth Super Cup appearance, while Frankfurt are making their debut in the fixture. Eintracht qualified by winning last season’s Europa League final, Oliver Glasner’s men beating Rangers on penalties to secure the club’s first major European trophy since 1980.

Real Madrid and Eintracht Frankfurt’s 2022 UEFA Super Cup clash at Helsinki’s Olympic Stadium will kick off on Wednesday 10 August 2022 at 10pm local time (EEST). In the US, that’s 3pm ET/2pm CT/12 noon PT. In the UK, the game gets underway at 8pm BST.
