Real Madrid’s 14-year-old with Cuban blood on the rise
Los Blancos have high hopes for their youngster, who is already on the books of Jorge Mendes and Adidas.
Guillermo Ponce, a 14-year-old with Cuban blood, is another jewel that Real Madrid has within its ranks. The young goalkeeper is already represented by super agent Jorge Mendes and has signed a deal with the Adidas brand.
Although very young, and much can change in a player’s early development, there has been lots of talk around him and the feeling is that he has a promising future.
‘Guille’, as he is known, was born in Spain but, as mentioned, has Cuban blood running through him and his excellent performances have not gone unnoticed with him recently being awarded the prize for the best goalkeeper in his category.
Is Guillermo Ponce eligible for Cuba national team?
As with a number of players, if he continues on his expected trajectory, Ponce may be pulled into the realm of international football and this would potential mean choosing between Spain and Cuba. Any Real Madrid player, if that was still the case, would grab the headlines more than most in the ranks of the Cuban national team, but there is a clear appreciation that the journey is long, and the boy needs time to mature and develop before these conversations need to happen.
