Update:

After their excellent showing at the 2022 World Cup where Morocco became the first African side to reach the semifinals, Walid Regragui’s side have been the bookies favourites to secure their first AFCON glory since the mid 1970s.

The Atlas Lions have shone in spells but at the same time, certainly look like a team carrying the weight of expectation on their shoulders.

Their progression to the semi-final stage of the tournament has been largely down to the goals of Real Madrid’s Brahim Diaz.

The 26-year-old has established himself as a history-maker for Morocco during the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with his performances having shattered long-standing national records, particularly in scoring consistency.

Key AFCON Records Achieved

Brahim has become the first Moroccan player to score in five consecutive AFCON matches: By scoring in every game from the group stage through the Round of 16 and the quarter-final, he became the first player in Morocco’s history to find the net in five successive matches in a single edition.

With 5 goals so far, he has become the first player since Osei Kofi (1968) to score in all first 5 AFCON games.

He was also the second Moroccan player to score in three consecutive AFCON matches, a feat previously held alone by national legend Ahmed Faras for 49 years (achieved across the 1972 and 1976 tournaments).
