Real Madrid claimed their 15th European crown earlier this year, beating Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League final to complete a famous double. Los Blancos have now won six of the last 11 Champions Leagues and they will be among the favourites to lift it again in 2024/25.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side fear no one when it comes to continental competition but they have been drawn against some genuine European heavyweights in the first iteration of the new-look Champions League. Their league phase fixtures see them face Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan at home and make the tough trip to Liverpool.

When is Real Madrid’s first Champions League game?

Real Madrid C.F. - VfB Stuttgart: Tuesday 17 September - 3 p.m. ET

Los Blancos have had a difficult start to the new campaign in LaLiga, winning just one of their opening three matches. A single unconvincing win against Real Valladolid came between frustrating away draws with RCD Mallorca and La Palmas, with their superstar summer signing failing to make a mark.

Kylian Mbappé is yet to score a LaLiga goal in his three starts for Madrid, highlighting concerns that he could struggle to shine in Carlo Ancelotti’s system. The Frenchman has been playing as a central striker and has not managed to find the space needed to make the most of his incredible talent.

Nevertheless, Mbappé's real value will come in the big games and he already boasts an impressive record in the Champions League. The 25-year-old has recorded 48 goals and 26 assists in the Champions League and will be confident of adding many more to that tally in the Spanish capital.
