Madrid’s 2024-25 calendar in other competitions
Carlo Ancelotti’s team will be battling on several fronts next season and will be competing in a total of seven competitions - an unprecedented opportunity.
A season of changes includes the new, expanded Champions League which will feature 36 teams with a league phase replacing the old group stage. Real Madrid will find out who their rivals are in the League phase draw, which will take place on Thursday 29 August 2024.
Real Madrid won their 20th Copa del Rey in 2023 and while the club considers every tournament to be important, the Cup is not one of the main priorities.
The dates for next season’s competition have not been confirmed by the RFEF but Real Madrid, along with title holders Athletic Club, Barcelona and Mallorca will enter at the Round of 32 stage.
Spanish Super Cup
Next season’s tournament will feature Real Madrid and Barcelona, as LaLiga champions and runners-up respectively, and Athletic Club and Mallorca, as last season’s Cup champions and runner-up respectively. The bracket has already been designated: Madrid vs Mallorca and Athletic vs Barcelona in the semi-finals.
There are no confirmed dates as of the moment, although the tournament will most likely be played during the week of January 13 to 19 2025 - before the last two days of the Champions League league phase. One semi-final would be played on January 15, another on January 16 with the final on Sunday 19 January. The Federation will soon be announcing the official dates.
2024 Intercontinental Cup
The tournament that pits the reigning European champions against their South American counterparts (2024 Copa Libertadores winners) returns this season - in an expanded format. Six teams will play, although the European champions (in this case Real Madrid), qualify directly for the final.
The 2024 Copa Libertadores winners meanwhile will face the 2024 CONCACAF Champions Cup winners (Pachuca) in the second round.
The tournament comprises two rounds, playoffs and the final. Four of the five qualified teams are already known: Pachuca (2024 CONCACAF Champions Cup winners; Al Ain (Asia), Al Ahly (Africa) and Auckland City (Oceania).
The 2024 Copa Libertadores representatives will be known once the final is played - on 30 November in Buenos Aires.
The dates for the tournament are 14-18 December 2024. Madrid will only play the final, on December 18 at a venue to be announced by FIFA.
Club World Cup
The new FIFA Club World Cup, with 32 teams, will be held in the United States (specific venues have not yet been announced) between 15 June and 13 July 2025.
The 32 teams will be divided into eight groups of four, which will play three games between them with the top two in each group advancing to the round of 16. From there, single-match playoffs without extra time, if the 90 minutes end in a tie, a penalty shoot-out will be played.
At the moment, 29 of the 32 participating teams are known: Al Ahly, Wydad Casablanca, Espérance Sportive de Tunis and Mamelodi Sundowns (Africa); Palmeiras, Flamengo, Fluminense and River Plate (South America - two places left to fill); Al Hilal, Urawa Red Diamonds, Al Ain and Ulsan Hyundai (Asia); Monterrey, Seattle Sounders, León and Pachuca (North America, Central America and the Caribbean); Auckland City (Oceania); a team still to be determined for the United States as host; and Chelsea, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, PSG, Borussia Dortmund, Inter Milan, Porto, Atlético Madrid, Benfica, Juventus and Red Bull Salzburg (Europe).
There are no confirmed dates nor specific venues yet. It is only known that the tournament will get underway on June 15 and conclude on 13 July.
We also know when Real Madrid will get a break from it all - at least those who are not involved with their national teams. There will be four international breaks next season: 2-10 September, 1-15 October, 11-19 November, 17-25 March and 2-10 June.
Competition will also stop for the Christmas break in Spain with no league matches between 23 December and 11 January 2025.
