Real Madrid’s Eduardo Camavinga: Left-back isn’t my best position

Didier Deschamps said recently that Camavinga was being called into the Les Bleus squad as a left-back.

Eduardo Camavinga gives Real Madrid tonnes of energy and versatility at such a young age. The France international has played in numerous positions in his short career, including as a No 6, No 8 and left-back.

Even though France boss Didier Deschamps said recently that Camavinga was being called into the Les Bleus squad as a left-back, the 20-year-old has explained that he still doesn’t feel left-back is his best position.

Camavinga prefers a midfield role

The former Rennes player spoke to French outlet Canal Plus after Real Madrid’s 2-0 win over Chelsea in the Champions League on Tuesday night and was asked if he is enjoying playing at left-back to which he responded, “No, not yet. The most important thing is to help the team, and today I did that again. But no, it still isn’t my position.”

Options for Ancelotti

Throughout the season, Camavinga has impressed in the No 6 role, including in games at La Cerámica, San Mamés, and Anfield in the remarkable 5-2 Champions League win.

With youth on his side, he will continue to improve in each position he plays in and he offers Carlo Ancelotti numerous options in his eleven.

Camavinga’s ability to play in the pivot is a nice problem for Ancelotti to have as the Italian believes that fellow France international and former Ligue 1 star Aurélien Tchouaméni needs healthy competition.

“For me, it’s important that Tchouaméni is doing well. He can play in the eleven. Camavinga is also doing well. It’s good for us to have players of this level,” Ancelotti told a recent press conference.
