Relentless América beat San Luis and poised to break club record for consecutive Liga MX wins

Club América had little trouble in swatting aside Atlético de San Luis, with Las Águilas running out 3-0 winners to equal a club record for consecutive victories.

Following the midweek Liga MX Apertura 2022 victory against Atlético de San Luis, Club América have equaled a club record for consecutive victories with a total of eight. Now ‘Las Aguilas” have set their sights on breaking the record when they face Necaxa at the weekend. Further down the line is the all time Liga MX record for the most wins in a row in a single tournament, which is currently held by Cruz Azul, León and Necaxa with 12.

Fernando Ortíz’s team continue to impress after a sluggish start to the Apertura 2022 campaign and have a great opportunity to target the record given their favourable fixture list (on paper, at least). León and Cruz Azul hold the record with a total of 12 victories with Necaxa’s run coming in the 1934-1935 season, before the game had been completely professionalised in Mexico.

With a game in hand from matchday 5 against Santos, América have four matches left to play in the regular phase of the 2022 Apertura and a gilt-edged chance to record 12 consecutive victories.
