Report: Jefferson Savarino could return to Major League Soccer
The Venezuelan winger’s contract with Brazilian side Atlético Minerio is coming to an end and Real Salt Lake wants to bring him back to MLS.
Jefferson Savarino joined Real Salt Lake in 2017 and scored 22 goals in three seasons in Major League Soccer. The Venezuelan winger had a successful first stint with the Utah-based side and caught the eye of Atlético Minero.
In early 2020, Real Salt Lake confirmed the transfer of Jefferson Savarino to the Brazilian side where he made an immediate impact. The 25-year-old scored 10 goals in 43 appearances across all competitions and was a regular starter for Atlético Mineiro.
Real Salt Lake wants Savarino back
After two-and-a-half years, Jefferson Savarino has decreased his productivity with the Brazilian side and he has yet to make a start in the first three league fixtures. The Venezuelan has lost his spot in the starting XI and Atlético Minerio want to transfer hime before his contract expires at the end of 2023.
According to multiple reports, the negotiations between Real Salt Lake and the Brazilian side are very advanced and Savarino could return to MLS during the summer transfer window. It has been reported that RSL will pay close to 3 million dollars for 40% of player’s rights to Atlético Mineiro to bring back the 25-year-old ace.
