The summer transfer window is approaching and several clubs in Major League Soccer will be bringing in top players from leagues all over the world for the second part of the regular season. Such are the cases of Los Angeles FC and Inter Miami because both teams have a designated player spot open.

The rumors sparked when the Turkish side left out the former Real Madrid star out of the roster for unspecified reasons. Apparently Fenerbahce has started the process of terminating Mesut Ózil’s contract and Özil’s long time friend Ridvan Dilmen confirmed that his future could be in MLS.

Why did Fenerbahce suspend Özil?

The reason why Mesut Özil has been suspended from the Turkish side is because he got in an argument with head coach Ismail Kartal last month. Kartal is Fenerbahce’s interim head coach and the argument occurred last month after the league match against Konyaspor.

“We do not have that plan at the moment. This decision is not child’s play. The most important thing is Fenerbahce,” said Fenerbahce’s president Ali Koc regarding reinstating Özil after the suspension.

Özil’s contract with the Turkish side expires in June 2024, but they have sat down with the player to annul his deal. Another team that has shown interested in signing the former Arsenal ace is Championship side Hull because they are won by Turkish media company Acun Medya.
