Lionel Messi is in top form with Argentina at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, scoring one goal in the first two games of the group stage, one against Saudi Arabia and one against Mexico. While the 35-year-old is focused on helping Argentina defeat Poland on Wednesday and secure a spot in the knockout stages, it has been reported that he will join Inter Miami next year.

According to The Times, Inter Miami is close to a deal with Lionel Messi, and they are confident he will sign the new contract after the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The 35-year-old’s contract with Paris Saint-Germain is set to expire next summer, and per report, Messi will not renew and could become the highest-paid player in MLS history.

If Messi does agree to join the Major League Soccer side, it is unclear when he will make his debut during the 2023 regular season. Messi could be facing over 14 straight months of playing without a break because of the overlapping schedules in Europe’s top tier due to the World Cup being played in November and December.

Other players joining Messi in MLS

Inter Miami has two designated player spots open, and they are keen on bringing Sergio Busquets to the league for the 2023 campaign. Other players on the radar of the team owned by David Beckham are Luis Suárez and Cesc Fabregas.
