Ricardo Marín scores Chivas’ 4,000th Liga MX goal
The centre-forward scored the equaliser in Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Toluca - a landmark goal for Guadalajara.
Chivas have been struggling to break out of a negative run in the Apertura 2023 - the team’s last win in the Liga MX was against León on 10 September. The Rojiblancos managed to come away from the Nemesio Díez with a point this weekend - Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Toluca was the team’s second draw in the last three games and leaves them just outside the Liguilla places.
However, history was made as Chivas brought up their 4,000th goal in the Liga MX. Ricardo Marín had the honor of scoring the landmark goal, cancelling out Édgar Iván López’s opener with little over 20 minutes left to play. The striker glanced in Alan Mozo’s centre to make it 1-1 on the night and register goal number 4000 for Chivas in the top flight.
América, the team that has scored the most goals
While the Rebaño Sagrado is one of the oldest teams in Mexican soccer, América is the most successful in terms of official titles and also the club to have scored the most goals in the top division with a total of 5,218 goals, according to data from Ricardo Salazar, from TUDN.
Chivas a, 3900 from Atlante, then Toluca on 3782, Atlas on 3697, Cruz Azul with 3533, León with 3419, Pumas on 3387, Rayados on 3365 and Necaxa on 3246.
Bad times for Chivas
It’s an achievement to reach the 4,000-goal mark but in general, Chivas have been struggling to find their feet since the tournament resumed after the Leagues Cup. At one point, the Zapopan team was top of the table and now, they are in seventh place with 15 points, six points behind the leaders and without a win in the last three games.
