Robert Dante Siboldi: “The important thing is to get up” after Atlas defeat
The Tigres head coach wants to see a reaction from his team ahead of the Liga MX fixture against Monterrey.
Tigres head coach Robert Dante Siboldi has demanded improvement from his side after a 2-0 defeat to Atlas on Sunday evening.
Rayados finished the Clausura 2023 season in seventh place but triumphed in the playoffs, picking up their eighth Mexican league title. They have begun this season in solid form and are currently just two points adrift of league leaders San Luis.
However they have now lost two of their last four matches and, speaking after Sunday’s game, Siboldi said that he wants his team to learn from the Atlas defeat.
“All defeats hurt. The important thing is to get up, analyze the things we did, the things we stopped doing and prepare for what comes next,” he explained.
“We have a game against Rayados, a very important game for us, for our people and our club.”
Siboldi will take the positives from Atlas loss
Tigres dominated the ball against Atlas but only managed to muster one shot on target across the entire 90 minutes. Siboldi wants his team to keep possession and the coach highlighted the positive elements of their play in the post-match interview.
“In the face of a defeat, we always look for the positive and the positive thing is that the team showed something, even though things didn’t happen,” he said.
“We didn’t play a good game, starting with me. We must do self-criticism, analyze and plan this week to prepare for the next opponents.”
“It was important that Marcelo [Flores], who just arrived, came in to play. I take this as a positive, that today we were able to give minutes to young players who we want to allow to develop,” Siboldi added.
Tigres miss Sebastián Córdova, Siboldi admits
Part of the reason for Tigres’ inability to fashion clear-cut chances against Atlas could be attributed to the loss of midfielder Sebastián Córdova. The 26-year-old picked up an injury in a recent victory over Querétaro and could be sidelined for some time.
“Without a doubt, we are not discovering anything new,” Siboldi explained, “Sebastián is fundamental for us.”
“He is the conductor of our game and without him, we must look for other ways. But this does not mean detracting from those who have to play, because we must adapt to the circumstances and the players we have.
“If Sebas is not here, we will have to continue working based on what we have to look for the best result in the next game,” Siboldi added.
