LeBron James needed to score 35 points to tie Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, so he made sure he broke the record on Tuesday night against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The 38-year-old put in a stellar performance at Crypto.com Arena and scored 36 to surpass Abdul-Jabbar and make history.

Now, James holds the record with 38,387 points in his 20-year-year career in the NBA and will continue to increase that number because there are 27 games left in the regular season for the Los Angeles Lakers. He signed a contract extension during the summer that runs through the 2024-25 season to increase his legacy.

Ronaldinho’s response

Several athletes around the world took to social media to congratulate James for breaking the record in the Lakers’ 133-130 defeat to the Thunder. One of them was former Barcelona and Brazil soccer star Ronaldinho, who shared a picture with James on his social media accounts to express his happiness at the milestone.

Congratulations LeBron James for this historic achievement. The all-time leading scorer in the NBA. You’re fo#@!! Long live the King,” the 2005 Ballon d’Or winner on Tuesday.

Other athletes joined the celebrations

Patrick Mahomes also took to social media to congratulate James on the achievement. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback is currently in Arizona to prepare for the Super Bowl matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night and is recovering from an ankle injury.

Manny Pacquiao also joined the celebrations with a quick message on Twitter. The former boxer complemented James for becoming the all-time leading scorer and wrote: “Congrats King James, #Legend, #Greatness.”
