Ryan Reynolds rumoured to be looking at Ottawa Senators acquisition
The Hollywood actor may be set to expand his sports ownership portfolio with NHL franchise Ottawa Senators up for sale.
Sports business specialists Sportico recently reported that Canadian NHL franchise Ottawa Senators will be put up for sale by the Eugene Melnyk Estate with the businessman Melnyk passing away in March this year and Galatioto Sports Partners being drafted in to oversee the sale.
The ice-hockey team is worth $655 million, according to Sportico’s most recent valuations.
People Magazine claim that a source has informed them that 46-year-old Reynolds is apparently interested in the franchise with the actor fanning the flames with a ‘pensive’ emoji when asked to come and own the team by a local Senators fan.
Reynolds (along with fellow actor Rob McElhenney) recently became owners of soccer side Wrexham AFC who play in the English lower leagues despite the club being located in North Wales. The purchase sparked a Disney + documentary ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ which has seen the profile of the club boosted with a massive incremental lift in ticket sales and global merchandise sales.
Could the Toronto born Reynolds have been bitten by the sports ownership bug with the Wrexham acquisition paving the way a move into the world of ice hockey for the Deadpool actor?
