SERIE A
Salernitana set to table new bid to keep Guillermo Ochoa
According to ‘Salerno Today’, the Serie A club are looking to retain the Mexican goalkeeper for two more seasons which would see his salary double.
Guillermo Ochoa has been impressive in his brief time with Salernitana and with salvation in Serie A in sight, local daily outlet Salerno Today claims that the board, led by president Danilo Iervolino and sports director Morgan de Sanctis are already preparing a new lucrative contract for the five-time World Cup goalkeeper.
The agreement outlined in the newspaper would consist of signing Ochoa until 2025 and see the veteran stopper pocket one million euros per season: 800,000 in salary and 200,000 in bonuses. At present, ‘Memo’ is on a salary of 400,000 euro base plus 50,000 in relation to performance related bonuses with the new proposal set to double his earnings.
Ochoa and Salernitana’s current relationship ends on 30 June with no renewal clause being drafted into the original contract so fresh negotiations would need to take place between the player and the Italian side. The Serie A side do have preferential rights to extend its relationship with the goalkeeper, who has been instrumental in recent positive results.
The supposed offer would serve to counter the rumors that have linked Ochoa with the Milan giants (Inter and AC) who who have already reportedly set their sights on the former Club America goalkeeper, according to information released by Tutto Salernitana last week.
Ochoa signed with Salernitana in December 2022, after his performance in the World Cup in Qatar with the Mexican national team. He has played 12 games in the 22-23 Serie A season with 22 goals conceded in that time. Against Inter Milan, last Friday, April 7, in a duel held at San Siro, ‘Memo’ made 10 key saves as part of the 1-1 draw and was later selected in the Serie A team of the week.
