It was a historic night for Mexican striker Santiago Giménez, who not only gave Feyenoord a last-minute victory in the Eredivisie on Wednesday but also put himself back in the history books by passing legendary Uruguayan striker Luis Suárez as the top scorer in a calendar year in the Dutch league.

It was in the 94th minute when, after a dink into the box, the ball was met by the head of the Mexico international, who rose highest to finish and put his side ahead in the dying moments of the game.

Two minutes later, Igor Paixaio made it 3-1 to give the home side the three points.

New record for the Mexican

The goal was Giménez’s 31st of the year in the Eredivisie, one more than Suárez’s record with Ajax.

With 18 goals to his name, Giménez is now the league’s top scorer and he still has more than half of the season left to continue his positive streak in front of goal.

PSV top

With the victory, the side from Rotterdam remain in second place with 35 points, just 10 behind their closest rivals, Hirving Lozano’s PSV, who have won every single league game this season.
