Santiago Giménez to miss the preseason with AC Milan

AC Milan are eager to return to the prominence the club once enjoyed as one of European soccer’s elite clubs. Massimiliano Allegri’s priority is for the team to return to the Champions League, and to do so, they’ll have to start working from scratch.

The arrival of the second-highest Serie A winner as manager and the signing of Luka Modric raise expectations to the maximum, and during their preseason, the squad will travel to Asia for a series of warm-up matches.

However, forward Santiago Giménez will not be part of the group. He is still on vacation, after having starred for Mexico in the recent Gold Cup. El Tricolor won the 18th edition of the tournament, beating the United States 1-2 in the final, to secure their second consecutive title.

After the Asia tour, Milan travel a little closer to home for games against Leeds United at Aviva Stadium in Dublin (August 9) and recently-crowned world champions Chelsea at Stamford Bridge (August 11).

Giménez is expected to be available for the Serie A season opener against Cremonese on August 23.
