Victor Osimhen bags first Super Eagles hat-trick
The Napoli striker was instrumental in today's Agadir destruction of Sao Tome & Principe with the player recording his first ever hat-trick in a Nigeria shirt.
Osimhen on five goals from 2
The Napoli striker has bagged five goals in two games of the AFCON 2023 Group A qualifiers after his goal saw Nigeria secure all points against Sierra Leone along with his four tonight in Agadir as the Super Eagles brushed Sao Tome & Principe aside.
Today's scoreline is Nigeria's biggest win ever in a competitive game and beats the previous record of a 10-1 win over Dahomey (Benin) recorded in 1959.
Commiserations today to Sao Tome and Principe who offered a decent display in the first 45 minutes but capitulated in the second half with the sheer class of the Super Eagles simply too much for the African minnows.
Group A table
This is how the Group A table looks currently with Sierra Leone-Guinea-Bissau set to be played later this evening. Super Eagles and the Djurtus both the nations expected to advance with the next games scheduled for September.
The 2023 AFCON starts next June in Ivory Coast.
A solid start for the Jose Peseiro era on the Nigeria bench as the Portuguese racks up two wins and 12 goals in his first two competitive matches in charge of the Super Eagles.
The next international action for the Super Eagles will be in September when they face Guinea-Bissau in a key clash that could determine the table topper in Group A.
Napoli's Victor Osimhen will make the headlines with his four goals, but Moses Simon, Moffi and Lookman also deserve the plaudits for solid performances against a poor Sao Tome and Principe side.
Rampant Nigeria rack up double figures !
The whistle sounds in Agadir and that is as one sided a game as you will see for some while in international football as lowly Sao Tome & Principe are totally outclassed
Dennis to take ....The Watford man tucks the ball into the corner and it's a white-wash
Dennis is clipped and wins a penalty... a bit of hesitation from the Liberian match official
2 minutes will be added.
Last minute of the 90 and one would expect the ref to call time on the 90....
Looming towards the 90 minute mark as Osimhen almost makes it 0-10! The ball crashes off the post !
A cool finish from the Napoli striker as he clips the ball over the Sao Tome keeper after a fine ball from Musa
Osimhennnnnnn makes it nine !
Very little intensity about the game now with Nigeria not being able to add to their eight goal tally.
Another Sao Tome switch as Luiz Adrior is on for Viegas
Just over ten minutes remain here in Agadir and Sao Tome desperately clearing wave after wave of Nigeria attack. A real humbling this afternoon for the African island nation.
Sadiq does put the ball into the net but the Almeria man was ever so slightly in an offside position.
Sadiq breaks and wins a corner for his side. A great chance for the Almeria man to add to his one goal in a Nigeria shirt
Sao Tome still with 0 shots on target as one senses that Nigeria have dropped down a gear.
Nigeria substitutes:
Moffi off-Sadiq on
Bassey off-Balogun on
Lookman off-Dennis on

Card for Aina
Osimhen has the ball in the net and once again is caught offside as he drills the ball home.
What a strike..... Stoke's Etebo rifles the ball into the net as the ball drives the bar and goes in !
Danger for Sao Tome as Osimhen is fouled on the edge of the box. The Napoli man lurking in the ball looking for his hat trick today
Way too easy and Nigeria could get double figures today if they crank up the intensity levels.
A fine predators header as he nods down from a Lookman cross
Osimhen strikes again for Nigeria to make it 0-4
No changes at break for either side.
Away we go, the 'home' side today starting the action
The teams are back on the pitch and we're just seconds away from the restart.
Ahmed Musa warming up at the moment with his new club Fatih Karagumruk yesterday confirming Andrea Pirlo as new head coach ahead of the 2022-23 season in Turkey.
Still no sign of the teams at the Stade de Agadir with approximately 100 fans in attendance today. The game is being staged at a neutral venue as Sao Tome's National Stadium fails to meet certain CAF criteria for staging an AFCON 2023 qualifier.
Nigeria cruising in Agadir at the break
The whistle sounds in Agadir and it's goals from Osimhen, Simon and Moffi on target to put the Super Eagles into a commanding lead against the lowly ranked Sao Tome side.
A blow for Sao Tome who were fighting back with dignity as we have 2 minutes for added time.
Fine work from the Lorient man as he latches onto an assist from Osimhen to slot home
Terem Moffi gets his first competitive goal for the Super Eagles....
Nigeria's ploy all afternoon has been to slide threaded balls through to the strikers and break the offside trap.
Final five minutes and Nigeria are comfortable here in Agadir and may be disappointed to not have added to the two goals.
Aina is on the turf and is holding his ankle... good news for the Torino man who recovers and is fine to continue.
Yet another offside decision goes against Nigeria who feel they are having all the calls go against them.
The other Group A match starts later this evening as Guinea-Bissau face Sierra Leone with one of these two expected to join the Super Eagles at AFCON 2023 next summer in Cote D'Ivoire
Play back underway and the Sao Tome stopper is okay to continue.
Still 0-2 as we head towards the interval.
Bragança is clipped by Osimhen and will need attention.
Leal has a strike from range but fails to secure any accuracy and nothing to trouble Uzoho in the Nigeria goal.
Not the most aesthetic goal the Nantes man has ever scored but today's captain was alert in following up the Napoli man's effort.
Moses Simon steers the ball into the net after decent work from Osimhen.
Possession after 26':
Sao Tome 32% v Nigeria 68%
The home side yet to muster an effort on goal.
Jardel Nazaré breaks for Sao Tome but the man in green is totally alone as he tries to find a team mate with a back heel.
Anastácio Bragança denies Nigeria from doubling their lead as he smothers the ball.
Twenty minutes of the game gone and Nigeria comfortable and good value for their 1-0 lead.
Osimhen has the ball in the net but the flag was up and demies the Napoli striker.
Decent effort from Moffi as he forces the keeper to get down well from a strike from outside the box.
Imperative that Sao Tome keep Nigeria at bay for the moment. One senses that another goal for Nigeria could signal the floodgates to open.
Better from Sao Tome now as the thread a series of passes together as a dangerous ball into the box looking for Leal forces Uzoho to intervene and save well.
Gooooool. Nigeria open the scoring as Osimhen head home. So easy for the Super Eagles and the ideal start for Nigeria.
A sea of green shirts as Sao Tome sit deep...it's going to be a long evening for Leal, the most forward Sao Tome striker who cuts a lone figure.
Anastácio Bragança with a shocker of a goal kick .... the Sao Tome stopper is currently a free agent !

Today's venue the Adrar Stadium in Agadir (Morocco) is home to top flight side Stade d'Agadir and holds 45,000 fans. Today's attendance is expected to be in the 100's.
Sao Tome danger man
With 20 caps to his name, Luis Leal is the man Nigeria's defence will have to keep an eye on this afternoon. The striker plays his club football for Bolivian side Guabira and he has a knack of finding the target.
Group A opening games
Nigeria were made to work hard for their 2-1 win over Sierra Leone in Abuja with Guinea-Bissau despatching Sao Tome 5-1 despite going behind to an early goal from the islanders.
Two teams from the group advance to the 2023 CAN in Ivory Coast next year.
Confirmed Sao Tome & Principe XI
Coach Adriano Euesebio opts for a 4-4-2 formation against the Super Eagles with Leal and Selamane leading the line for the, at least on paper 'home side' in Agadir today.
Nigeria's tweaks for today's game: Etebo replaces Joe Aribo. Lookman replaces Villarreal's Samuel Chukwueze. Moffi replaces Sadiq. Bassey moves to central defence with Ekong out via injury. Zaidu moves to right back.
Sao Tome possible starters
As we wait for the official starting XI for the Falcons and True Parrots, we expect Viegas who opened his account for the national team with his strike against Guinea-Bissau to spearhead the attack once again.
He should be joined in the final third by 30-year-old Valter Rocha and Bolivia-based forward Leal, while Clube Oriental de Lisboa man Joel Neves could push for a starting role in midfield.
Despite their poor defensive performance against the Djurtus, Eusebio should stick to his centre-back pairing of Vava Pequeno and former Praia Cruz man Ivonaldo Viegas, with Anastacia Braganca starting in goal.
First ever meeting between Sao Tome and Nigeria
The island nation has never faced the Super Eagles in any official football match and today will be a momentous occasion for the 200,000 plus inhabitants of Sao Tome and Principe as the face one of the biggest names in African soccer.
Super Eagles XI announced
Moses Simon captains the team today in the absence of Watford's William Troost-Ekong who limped out of Thursday's game in Abuja with a groin issue.
Sao Tome last recorded a win over Mauritius last March as part of a two-legged play-off to secure a place in the qualifying group stages for AFCON 23. The 1-0 home win, coupled with a 3-3 'away win' (both legs were staged in Mauritius) was enough for the islanders to advance but only after a CAF ruling sided with them after Mauritius complained about an ineligible player for The Falcons and True Parrots Team.
Osimhen the hero vs Lone Stars
The Napoli striker was on hand to secure the winner for Nigeria in Abuja last Thursday after Sierra Leone had taken an early lead at the National Stadium.
An overcast morning in the city of Agadir in Morocco with today's game being staged in the neutral venue of Agadir with Sao Tome’s national stadium (12 de Julho) not having the infrastructure required to host a high profile AFCON qualifying game.
The action at today's neutral venue of Agadir (Morocco) gets underway at 15:00 CEST or 09:00 ET
