Saudi Arabia still hoping to land Lionel Messi
The head of the Saudi Arabian league spoke about the possibility of having Messi in the future.
The prospect of Lionel Messi joining a team after his stint with Inter Miami in the MLS now seems a distant one, with all signs pointing to the Argentine star hanging up his boots once his time with the MLS club is over.
Saudi Arabia is still hopeful that the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner and World Cup winner with Argentina can still one day join their growing league in the future.
In an interview with Saudi Arabia’s SPL, Michael Emenalo, who serves as director of the Saudi League, revealed his desire to have Messi once the Argentine forward finishes his contract with Inter Miami in MLS.
“We know for sure that if Messi still has the desire and ambition to play and is willing to play in Saudi Arabia, we will be able to find him a club where he can show his ability. It is a possibility. If he wants to come here, we will work hard to find him a club,” explained Michael Emenalo.
How long is Messi’s Inter Miami contract?
With Saudi Arabia’s desire to acquire Messi’s services in the future, it is worth noting that such a possibility seems quite distant.
Messi is under contract with Inter Miami until 31 December 2025, although there is an option for a further year, so his stay with the Herons could go into 2026.
The recent signing of Luis Suárez has brought the former Barcelona duo back together again, a situation that together with Messi’s high salary reduces the chances of a departure, although for Saudi football, financing the project does not appear to be an obstacle.
