Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic is reportedly close to a move to Al Nassr, becoming the latest big name to make the switch from Europe to Saudi Arabia.

Brozovic has played for Inter Milan since a move from Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb back in 2015 and captained the side in the 2022/23 Champions League final against Manchester City.

Inter boss Simeone Inzaghi would like to keep the 30-year-old but the club’s financial situation dictates that they need to make significant sales this summer.

Last year, off the back of a Serie A title win, Inter awarded Brozovic a four-year contract extension to keep him at the club, but he will now be used to bolster the club coffers. The Italian side will reportedly receive a fee of around €23 million for the Croatian.

For the player, a transfer to Saudi Arabia will bring a huge salary, thought to be between €20-€30 million per year. If he does complete the move to Al Nassr he will join up with Cristiano Ronaldo and former Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina.

Barcelona outbid by Saudi Pro League

Spanish champions Barcelona are poised for another busy summer of transfer activity as the Catalan club balance the need to cut costs with a determination to compete with the very best.

Earlier this month Sergio Busquets left after a 15-year playing career with the club, leaving a sizeable hole in the middle of the Barcelona midfield. Brozovic was among the names mentioned as a possible replacement but they were blown out of the water by the financial package offered by Al Nassr.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta confirmed that they were no longer pursuing Brozovic, saying: “Brozovic has an offer from the Saudi League and we will not enter to compete with that.”

“Brozović, Zubimendi and Kimmich are too expensive,” he contineud. “These deals are not happening due to the financial package required.
