Saudi Arabian club ‘turns down’ Mendy ‘offer’
A Real Madrid social media account ‘offered’ the winger to several Saudi Pro League clubs - one of them, Al-Fateh, responded to the tweet.
“The best player!” That was how one anonymous Real Madrid account (@realmadridindo1) emphatically described to Férland Mendy in a sales pitch to several Saudi Arabian top flight clubs. The ‘offer’ prompted one club to respond - Al-Fateh, who finished in sixth place in the last edition of the Saudi Arabia Pro League. The Saudi club issue a polite, succinct, reply: “Thank you, but keep him in your team” - complete with a smiling face emoji.
Last night’s match against FC Barcelona in Dallas didn’t help the French full-back. His performance rating was among the worst in the Clásico. He was constantly tormented by Ousmane Dembélé, who ran him ragged down Real Madrid’s left lane, and opened the scoring for the Catalans.
Mendy, who struggled to regain form after last year’s World Cup, has a lot of improving to do if he is to keep Fran García and, perhaps, Camavinga and Nacho out of contention for the left-back position. If he falls down the order, he may end up having to leave Madrid, although probably not to join Al-Fateh...
