Scaloni’s conundrum ahead of Argentina CONMEBOL qualifiers
Argentina are set to face Paraguay in Asuncion and Peru at home in the next two matches in the 2026 World Cup qualifying stage.
Argentina go into the final FIFA international window of 2024 with games away to Paraguay before facing Peru at La Bombonera in Buenos Aires. After ten games, the World Cup holders top the group and are destined to defend their throne in the US, Canada and Mexico hosted tournament.
Head coach Lionel Scaloni initially is beginning his preparation for the first of two tests as the team travel to Paraguay with the game set to be played at the home Defensores del Chaco in Asunción.
Nicolás González, Germán Pezzella and Lisandro Martínez are all missing for Argentina this time around with Scaloni forced to shuffle his pack with Argentina looking to close the year with two wins.
Facundo Medina is one of the new faces in the squad and the defender has impressed this season with Lens in Ligue 1.
Argentine media outlets such as Ole and TyC maintain that the likes of: Cristian Romero, Nicolás Otamendi, Nicolás Tagliafico and Facundo Medina are primed to start for Scaloni in the games against Paraguay and Peru.
Argentina looking to define clear XI
After Inter Miami’s elimination from MLS Cup, Lionel Messi is fit and appears set to start in Asuncion with Emiliano “el Dibu” Martínez set to make a return in goal following the Aston Villa stopper serving his suspension following the incident with a cameraman in the match against Colombia.
Scaloni has a matter of days to decide which other nine players will pull on the sky and white jersey.
