Seattle Sounders are on the cusp of writing another chapter in the MLS history books as the side from Washington State will become the first US soccer team to represent CONCACAF at a FIFA Club World Cup competition. The ‘Rave Green’ also have the added incentive of knowing that a semi-final berth awaits against Real Madrid if they can get past Egyptian giants Al Ahly in the quarter-final.

The first obstacle for Brian Schmetzer and his side will be navigating a way past Africa’s most decorated club with the Egyptian team winning convincingly 3-0 in their first round game against Auckland City.

Seattle are also handicapped given that the new MLS season has yet to start with all other clubs well involved in domestic competition.

Sounders tipped to advance

Despite a lack of competitive action, the MLS outfit are tipped by many to advance to next week’s semi-final clash against Real Madrid in Rabat and will look to the quality of international players such as Jordan Morris (USA), Cristian Roldan (USA), Peru’s Raul Ruidiaz and captain Nicolas Lodeiro (Uruguay) whilst Colombian defender Yeimar will need to be on top of his game in depriving Alhy striker Mohamed Sherif from getting sight on goal.
