América defender Sebastián Cáceres has undergone surgery after suffering a blow during the Leagues Cup Round of 16 game against Nashville. The player was left with a broken nose managed to battle on and complete the whole game which the Mexicans lost on penalties.

The 23-year-old Uruguayan had his fractured nose reset in an operation over the weekend which medical staff reported to be a success.

Despite the positive outcome shown by the coaching staff, it is highly probable that the defender will be out of action for a few weeks. Azulcrema coach André Jardine had mentioned during the past few days, that the injury has not stopped the player from training, competing or any other physical activity, however, doctors have recommended that he spends two or three weeks resting away from the practice pitches.

It means that the Coapa team will not have the Uruguayan for the next two games - against Atlas and Necaxa. With any luck, Cáceres might be back for the Week 6 game against León, although it will depend entirely on his evolution between now and then.

Losing Cáceres is a problem for Las Águilas in defence as another centre-back, Néstor Araujo, is very close to signing for AEK Athens and is expected to fly out to Athens to complete his medical with the Greek club.

América resume the Apertura 2023 after their participation in the Leagues Cup. The team sits 12th in the table with three points, although André Jardine’s team have played a game less, as the Week 2 match against Querétaro was postponed.
