Club América could be dealt a blow in the immediate aftermath of Liga MX’a Clausura 2024 tournament getting underway. Sebastián Cáceres has attracted the attention of clubs in Europe and sources close to the defender have confirmed he is currently in talks with reigning Serie A champions Napoli. The Uruguayan is preparing to travel to Italy in the next few days with his entourage to be in a better position to decide on a potential transfer.

Which other teams are interested in Cáceres?

Although nothing has been agreed as yet, it has been reported Cáceres also has several other offers on the table, including from Napoli’s league rivals Torino, while Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur are also said to be interested in the 24-year-old.

Uruguayan defender could stay with América...for now

However, there is still a chance he could see out the remainder of his América contract, which still has one year left to run. Despite the Uruguay international having entered discussions with another club, he is settled in Mexico City and could yet stay put, at least in the short term.

Since joining Las Águilas from Liverpool Montevideo in January 2020, Cáceres has made 119 appearances for América in all competitions and started all six of their Apertura 2023 liguilla playoff matches as he won his first Liga MX title in December.
