Sergiño Dest could be the solution to AC Milan’s injury crisis
The United States international is set to earn his first start for the Serie A side against Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League.
Sergiño Dest arrived at AC Milan late in the summer in search of more minutes ahead of the start of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The United States international has made four appearances across all competitions for a total of 102 minutes, but he has yet to start a match for the Serie A side.
New opportunity for Dest
An injury-plagued AC Milan will go on the road to play against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night in the UEFA Champions League, and Dest could earn his first start. The Rossoneri confirmed that right full-back David Calabria suffered a serious injury and will be out until 2023, joining Alexis Saelemaekers on the sidelines.
Although this is unfortunate for Milan, the good news for head coach Stefano Pioli is that Dest is healthy and is available to cover the right full-back position. The 21-year-old is a versatile player that can operate in several positions and he is the solution to the injury crisis Milan is having early in the campaign.
Dest is slowly settling in at Milan and this opens the door for him to earn the trust of Pioli and start becoming a key player. He made his debut in Serie A last month and he conceded a naive penalty that gave Napoli the 1-0 lead at the moment. Milan lost that match 2-1 and now Dest will have a new opportunity to showcase his talent in the Champions League.
