After a disappointing loan spell at AC Milan, USMNT defender Sergiño Dest could be on his way to the Bundesliga.

Union Berlin, who will be playing in the Champions League next season, hope to sign the full-back, reports journalist Daniele Longo in Italy.

After falling out of favour under Barcelona boss Xavi Hernández, the 22-year-old decided to accept a loan offer from Milan. With the season now drawing to a close, Dest will be looking forward to trying a new challenge having featured on just eight occasions in Serie A.

In 635 minutes on the pitch with Stefano Pioli’s team, he has failed to register any goals or assists, and Milan have decided to not exercise their buy option for Dest.

Champions League football for Union Berlin

Union are reportedly confident of landing Dest, with a return to Camp Nou now unlikely. Barça need to reduce their wage bill in order to be able to bring in new players this summer and the American, who has a contract with the LaLiga champions until 2025, could follow Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba out of the club.

A move to Berlin would give Dest another opportunity to play in the Champions League, as the Bundesliga side finished the season in fourth spot.
